“You’ll Never Get That Book Published” – by Justin Sheedy

28 July 2011

I was lucky enough to be part of the 2010 Byron Bay Writers’ Festival for my first book, Goodbye Crackernight.  It was here that I was also lucky enough to meet Lynda Taylor.  Lynda is now part of this year’s Festival for her first book, Women I Adore.  So I’m proud and thrilled to be playing a part in the 2011 Byron Bay Writers’ Festival where I’ll be presenting Lynda with the international award she has just won for Women I Adore.  Lynda has won a Silver Medal in the Living Now Book Awards (Femininity/Sexuality/Style category), a New York-based competition dedicated to promoting books which seek to improve and enrich our lives.

Women I Adore is an iconic series of portraits of ‘Ordinary Women’ – in their own real life ways, Extraordinary Women.  It has achieved publication not only due to Lynda’s writing talent, soul and passion to share with you the stories of the fabulous women all around us, but also due to Lynda having obeyed the 3 Golden Rules of Publishing.

Rule 1.  Persistence.

Rule 2.  Persistence.

And finally, Rule 3.  Persistence.

It has taken Lynda 9 years of publishing rejection to see her dream and vision become a reality.

(Ring any bells?, he asked knowingly.)

Over those 9 years, Lynda was told things like…

“Oh, that’ll never sell…  Fabulous Ordinary women?  No, no, no, you need to write about celebrities…  People only want to read about Botox women, rich, powerful, face-lifted Supermodel women.  Not YOUR kind of women, these alleged ‘ordinary’ heroines…  It’ll never work.  Forget it.”

WRONG!!!

Women I Adore has been Published (with the help of Emma Borghesi of Brolly Books), has received brilliant reader response, it has SOLD, and has won a prestigious international award.  And the Living Now Awards are indeed prestigious, this year’s Silver Medal in the Awards’ Green Living category, for example, having been won by no less than Dr David Suzuki.

Justine Frazier, ABC North Coast Radio

Congratulations to Lynda and my thanks to her for inviting me to present her award at the Byron Bay Writers’ Festival 2011 book launch of Women I Adore, Saturday 6 August.  In the lead-up to the Festival we’ll be talking with Justine Frazier of ABC North Coast Radio 94.5 FM, 720 & 738 AM at 8:30am, Wednesday 3 August, where we’ll chat about Women I Adore, also my new book, Nor the Years Condemn, for which I’m currently seeking a publisher, also, presumably, about the 3 Golden Rules of Publishing.  Justine had me on her show for last year’s Festival, so it’s a delight to back on.

Additionally during Festival Week, I’ll be signing copies of Goodbye Crackernight at The Book Warehouse, Lismore, from 10am on Friday 5 August, where I’ll be doing readings from the book and talking to store customers about it during the day.  Massive thanks to Book Warehouse Manager, Sarah Jones, for organising this event for me.
